HUAWEI Watch GT3 review

The HUAWEI Watch GT3 is a richly equipped smartwatch in two sizes. It particularly focuses on fitness and health without neglecting everyday usability. The versions with a diameter of 42 millimeters are intended for narrower wrists. The larger counterparts have a diagonal of 46 millimeters. Various sports can be recorded and outdoor routes are precisely recorded thanks to GPS.

The smartwatch tracks the heart rate around the clock, measures the body temperature, detects the stress level and offers breathing exercises to relax if necessary. The battery life of the waterproof Huawei Watch GT3 (check out the HUAWEI online shop) is up to 7 days for the small models and up to 14 days for the larger variants.

Proven concept for success

As fans of HUAWEI’s GT series are already used to, the third generation is also available for selection in the two sizes of 42 and 46 millimeters. For this purpose, the brand offers different variants in each case, which differ in terms of color design and wristband material. What all models have in common is that they are waterproof up to 50 meters and can thus also accompany swimming workouts without any problems.

The HUAWEI Watch GT3 is available in 42 millimeters as a completely black and thus particularly neutral version with a silicone strap. Alternatively, there is a variant completely in rose gold, where the milanaise strap is made of stainless steel. The third option combines a gold bezel with a white leather strap. The AMOLED display of these smartwatches has a diagonal of 1.32 inches, which corresponds to around 33.5 millimeters. The corresponding resolution is 466 x 466 pixels.

Good usability for everyday tasks

If you are looking for a larger wrist companion, you can opt for one of the options with a diagonal of 46 millimeters. These smartwatches have a 1.43-inch screen, which is a good 36 millimeters. The touchscreen’s resolution is identical to the smaller versions. Prospective buyers can also opt for a black-colored model here. A version with a silver case and brown leather strap as well as a completely silver model with a stainless steel link bracelet expand the selection options.

In addition to the display, the HUAWEI Watch GT3 has two buttons on the right edge of the case. The upper one protrudes a bit more than the lower one and thus creates an even higher recognition value. However, there is another reason for this prominence: It can be rotated for convenient navigation through the menu. The HUAWEI Watch GT3 proves to be exceptionally light. The slim models weigh 35 grams and the larger ones 42.6 grams – however, these specifications only apply to the casing, not the wristband.

Suitability for everyday use meets functions for sports and health

HUAWEI has relied on its own operating system since the first generation of the GT series. However, it is no longer called Lite OS, but Harmony OS. Not only the name has changed, but also the possibilities. However, the advantage of compatibility with Android and iOS has remained the same. If calls or messages are received on the paired smartphone, the Watch GT3 immediately informs the user on the wrist. Because a speaker and microphone have been integrated, phone calls can even be made directly via the watch.

Another advantage of Harmony OS is that more third-party apps can be used on the smartwatch. Thus, the functional range of HUAWEI’s Watch GT3 can be expanded even further. As usual, some tools like calendar notifications, a weather display or an alarm clock are already available.

Great features for hiking and fitness

The fitness and health of the wearer are particularly relevant for the HUAWEI Watch GT3. Whether training or everyday life – the pulse is permanently measured on the wrist. As a companion, the smartwatch supports a wide range of activities. This includes units on the spinning bike, the cross trainer, the rowing machine, or classics like cycling, swimming, and running. The HUAWEI Watch GT3 records outdoor tours via GPS. It records the route and collects other important data like the average and maximum speed. It is nearly on par with the functions of the Fitbit Versa 3.

The HUAWEI Watch GT3 continues the reliable sleep tracking of its predecessor generations. It provides a detailed analysis of the night’s rest, the evaluation of which is available in full detail in the corresponding app on the phone. There, users also receive useful tips on how to optimize their sleep behavior.

The monitoring of the body temperature is also relevant from a health perspective. HUAWEI’s Watch GT3 comes with a built-in thermometer for this purpose. It also tracks stress. If it is too high, the wearer will receive breathing exercises directly on the display, which will help them relax.

The battery life typically depends on the usage intensity. The smaller HUAWEI Watch GT3 can last up to seven days on a single charge. Meanwhile, the larger variants reach a maximum of 14 days before they require new energy again.

Conclusion

The Huawei Watch GT 3 is a chic and visually variable smartwatch thanks to different variants. The performance in everyday use is good and if you’re trying to get more information out of your next workout, you’ll find a lot of features. The tracking was also accurate and reliable during our test period.

The display is also convincing. Among other things, the lack of an NFC and an LTE version are negative. Thus, the smartwatch cannot be used for independent calls or contactless payments, which would not make much sense without Google Pay support in this country anyway.

Those who use an iPhone as a paired smartphone also have to accept further restrictions – you won’t get close to the same features as with the Apple Watch. A few more options are available if you’re using Android or HarmonyOS, even though the selection in the AppGallery is sobering. Anyway, Huawei (like many other manufacturers) is known for interlinking the products of its own ecosystem best, which is also proven by the Huawei Watch GT 3 in the test.
