Amazfit GTS 3 review

The Amazfit GTS 3 is an exceptionally lightweight and versatile smartwatch that uses Zepp OS, a proprietary operating system that is compatible with iOS and Android. It immediately informs the wearer about incoming messages and calls on the paired cell phone. Convenience is ensured by the integrated voice assistant Amazon Alexa. A large part of the functions is dedicated to the wearer’s fitness and health.

For example, more than 150 different sports activities can be tracked. GPS is available for recording routes and the heart rate is measured around the clock. The Amazfit GTS 3 (check out the Amazfit store) determines four important parameters with just one command, which include pulse, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), respiration rate and stress level.

Visually appealing lightweight in three color options

The product name hints at an important design feature of the Amazfit GTS 3: The “S” contained in it means the English term “square” and is the reference to the angular case shape. The smartwatch’s diameter is 42 millimeters. The display has a diagonal of 1.75 inches. The content is displayed in a correspondingly high resolution of 390 x 450 pixels.

The intelligent smartwatch, which is also waterproof up to 50 meters, is available in three versions. One model is particularly neutral and is completely black. There are also two versions with a rose gold bezel. Amazfit also combines a band in brown and one in beige. They are both made of silicone, while the case is made of aluminum. This results in an exceptionally low weight: The GTS 3 weighs only about 24 grams – despite its rich features.

Those who want to individualize the smartwatch have the opportunity to do so, for example, via the digital watch face. More than 100 different designs can be selected. Among them are 15 animated watchfaces and twelve with a modular structure – they can be customized according to the wearer’s wishes. The Amazfit GTS 3 is not only operated via the touchscreen, but also via the button on the right edge of the casing.

Energy bundle with versatile functions and focus on health

Zepp OS is the name of the operating system that sends the Amazfit GTS 3 on its way to its owner. The software was developed by the manufacturer. It offers compatibility with Android and iOS. Accordingly, the smart watch informs about messages and calls without any problems. It is also equipped with Amazon Alexa, which acts as a voice assistant. Among other things, appointments or reminders can be dictated to her. There is also the option to control various smart home devices.

The Amazfit GTS 3 records over 150 different activities. It automatically recognizes a total of eight workouts based on typical movement patterns. These include running, cycling or training on the rowing machine, as well as swimming in the pool. Swimming is an appropriate keyword in this context: The smartwatch is also able to measure the pulse under water.

Great helper for fitness fans

It evaluates sports sessions in detail. It makes statements about the load and the effect of a workout. For better orientation, it tells the wearer how much time he should plan for regeneration, which makes it a great fitness smartwatch. The Amazfit GTS 3 uses the built-in GPS module to record outdoor routes so that their course can be viewed afterwards.

The smartwatch also focuses on health. It permanently measures the pulse and registers conspicuous values. It determines four values with just one command. All it takes is 45 seconds of patience. Users then find out their heart rate, the oxygen saturation in the blood (SpO2), the current stress level and the breathing rate.

The Amazfit GTS 3 also analyzes the latter at night. This parameter is one of several relevant for assessing sleep quality. However, it can also recognize a nap in the afternoon as such. If there is reason to do so, the watch gives suggestions for even better sleeping habits. Finally, female wearers have the option to log their periods with the Amazfit GTS 3.

Battery performance

The battery life of the smartwatch depends on the intensity of use. The manufacturer promises up to twelve days in normal use. In energy-saving mode, it can even last up to 20 days at a stretch. If the Amazfit GTS 3 is used very intensively, it still manages six days with one charge.

Conclusion

With the Amazfit GTS 3, Zepp Health has another attractive smartwatch in its lineup. The GTS 3 convinces us in particular in terms of its price/performance ratio: For 150 euros, you get a smartwatch that is packed full of features and also looks chic and not cheap, with a gaudy AMOLED display that is very easy to read and fully in line with the trend.

On the downside, we are primarily concerned with the lack of connectivity for external sensors – especially a heart rate monitor!

In a direct comparison with smartwatches from established manufacturers like Apple, Garmin (check out our Garmin Venu 2 Plus review) and Polar, the Amazfit GTS 3 is at a disadvantage. However, if you look at the development of the GTS – GTS 2 – GTS 3, the gap should get smaller with each generation.
