Garmin VIVOMOVE Sport Review

Stylish, compact and pleasantly light – at the same time rich in features. That is the Garmin Vivomove Sport. It belongs to the category of fitness watches as well as hybrid smartwatches. The decisive reason for this is the analog dial, into which a touchscreen has been discreetly incorporated.

As a result, this fashionable accessory displays a variety of other information in addition to the time. The Vivomove Sport accompanies the wearer in everyday life and records their activity data as well as their training performance. It also determines health parameters such as respiratory rate, pulse and oxygen saturation in the blood, and stress levels. The battery life of this waterproof wearable is around five days.

A stylish fitness watch in the guise of a hybrid smartwatch

Garmin’s Vivomove series is characterized by the fact that the corresponding models are equipped with an analog dial. In each case, there is a digital display – hardly recognizable for outsiders. This combination is exactly why we can speak of hybrid smartwatches. The same applies to the Garmin Vivomove Sport. It is characterized by a compact case diameter of 40 millimeters. The monochrome OLED screen reacts to the wearer’s finger touch. It displays the content at a size of 0.34 x 0.73 inches. The corresponding resolution is 72 x 154 pixels.

However, the Garmin Vivomove Sport does not have a button. Accordingly, it is operated exclusively via touch. It is waterproof up to 50 meters, so it can also handle swimming training with its wearer.

The case of the fitness watch is made of fiber-reinforced polymer and the wristbands are made of silicone. Their width is 20 millimeters. Weighing just under 34 grams, the Garmin Vivomove Sport could hardly be lighter.

It is available in four different colors at launch. The most striking variant is a mint green model with a silver bezel. A model in the combination of black and slate gray is particularly discreet. The collection is completed by an option in a mocha brown and rose gold accents. Rose gold is finally recognizable in the last version, which, however, essentially shines in the shade of ivory.

An accessory for all situations: from everyday life to sports and health

The visual appearance of an analog watch should not create the impression that the Garmin Vivomove Sport is limited in terms of its range of functions. In keeping with its status, it performs fitness tracking, which includes determining the daily distance covered and calories burned.

In addition, it permanently measures the wrist’s pulse, even under water – and it can also determine the blood’s oxygen content, which is also known by the abbreviation SpO2. Of course, various workouts can be recorded with the Garmin Vivomove Sport on the wrist. The supported activities include yoga, swimming or strength training.

However, those who want to record outdoor routes cannot rely on an integrated GPS module in this fitness watch. However, that is not a problem insofar as at least Connected GPS is supported. This means that the Vivomove Sport simply tracks the route with the help of the smartphone when it is connected.

The Body Battery – a typical indicator for Garmin – provides information about how well recovered the body is at the current time. This sports watch also provides this value, making it easier to estimate the status of recovery.

It also measures the stress level and if it turns out to be too high, it provides breathing exercises to relax. Furthermore, users of the Garmin Vivomove Sport are allowed to have their fitness age estimated. In addition to the actual age, it also uses values like the resting pulse or the weekly activity to determine this value. Women can also use the sports watch to log their menstrual cycle.

The Garmin VIVOMOVE Sport: Modern functions and sensors

Smartwatch functions are not neglected either. Accordingly, a classic notification function should not be missing: If calls or messages are received on the connected cell phone, the Garmin Vivomove Sport immediately informs about it. Compatibility is ensured with Android and iOS – with the special feature that Android users can even reply to messages.

The fitness watch also ensures a certain degree of security. Wearers first set up emergency contacts via the Garmin app. If there is a situation where they need help, the Vivomove Sport notifies these people via the pairing with the smartphone and transmits the current location at the same time.

The battery life of the hybrid smartwatch is around five days. It then manages another 24 hours by only displaying the time with the two analog hands.
